I've got a old Dell Inspiring that came stock with a AMD Athlon II x2 240 and 2GB of RAM. Since I've had it I have added another 2GB of RAM and a GeForce GT 720 2GB video card and a 500 watt Thermaltake PSU.

What I want to do is just upgrade my processor and get some more RAM and maybe a new case if I have enough $ after the purchase of what I need. I know some of the specifics of what I need but I don't know what would be compatible with the motherboard that I have.

My motherboard has a am2 socket which is compatible with some am3 processors. The Athlon currently in my PC is am3. I believe my mobo can only handle 95 watt processors. My RAM is also ddr2 and I want at least 8GB.

Any input on this would be helpful, thanks.

Looks like the max wattage for proc will be 95W. That being said, you should be able to upgrade to a Phenom II X4 945 with the C3 stepping Make sure BIOS is up to date before doing anything.

The most RAM the machine will support is up to 8GB, so you will need 2GB modules populated. Part #s YG410 and DW1P4 should work. Both are interchangeable with each other.
