Hi
I have a WD external hard drive, I had it set up for Mac time machine and it was working fine until I decided to reformat it back to NTFS and delete the Mac time machine from it. However when I tried to reformat the hard drive it came up as "the media is write protected". I did some online search and tried the Diskpart and also tried the "regedit" way as well and both case were unsuccessful. Now the hard drive doesn't even come up in my computer but it show on disk management however I can't do any modification to it.
any idea and thought on what is issue is and how to fix this.

Thanks

Welcome to the community, 086ris!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD external drive. I'd recommend you to go to Device Manager and check if it's listed there. You should also attempt to uninstall & reinstall the HDD as a device from there. Another thing you should try is plugging the drive back to the Mac OS and use the Disk Utility to test the drive for defects.

If you don't have access to a Mac OS X system, then you should use WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows to check up on the health and SMART status of the WD external. Just make sure you run both the Quick and the Extended tests.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!
