Sony Tv Tuner Card Transplant to Dell Tower - What Power Cord is Needed?

I found an old Vaio tower in my roommate's junk closet and he said I could take the tuner card out of it to put into my Dell tower. Last he knew, it worked perfectly but he has a laptop now so had no need for it.

Anyways, I placed it into the pci slot this morning and scanned around for a power cord that would work inside my tower and literally none of the connectors had the right size. I tried looking on Google for the particular models requirements but came up empty-handed (or maybe empty-headed?).

I have no clue what cord I am going to need here... the cord that was connected to it in the Vaio looked like a standard hard drive power cord and was marked p3. When I put it in my system, I found the p3 hard drive cable and tried connecting it but it was just a tiny fraction of an inch bigger and would not fit.

I even went and opened up his tower again and looked for another wire in case I missed something but apparently, I didn't.

So what kinda of cord do I need here? Before any replies with, "well what model is it" - it is the Sony Vaio PCVA-IMB5A. A photo can be seen here, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-TV-Tuner-Video-Capture-Card-PCVA-IMB5A-ENX-26-BTF-PA402Z-/262314754060

Solution

I feared that to be possible. Could be some unobtainum drivers needed or some other part that is part of the VAIO case for it to work.

Agreed. It looks like it should take just a four pin floppy power connector. I'd probably look for a 4-pin molex to floppy adapter if you *REALLY* want to try and get this running in your system.

What exactly are you hoping to do with this?

yeah i was thinking a 4 pin would work too BUT the thing is, when it was attached to the original tower, it wasnt using the 4 pin, it was using one roughly the same size as a hard drive connector. are both of these usuable for power supply?

A hard drive connector meaning a full size Molex 4 pin? Based on the picture in the link I do not see where the heck that would plug in. The smaller floppy connector which some hard drives may have taken as well would be the only one that even vaguely looks like it would work. And I have had cards that have used that plug in the past.

It may well have had some sort of adaptor you forgot. I know I had a couple of random cards that came with their own proprietary adaptors over the years.

so it might not even be an issue of power, its most likely an issue with this being proprietary to the vaio tower it was ripped out of. apparently, it is a bitch to get it working on anything else so I am probably just going to toss it and buy a generic one.
