What is a good graphic card to upgrade to?

Hello All,

This is my first post - so please excuse my ignorance!

I am looking to upgrade my computer's Graphics Card as I edit a lot of video now, what would a good one to go for be? I think the current one I have is on it's way out!

I also use Vegas 13.0 for video editing - now sure how much difference that will make to the choice...

Will be working with 4K footage soon, so perhaps that is a variable to bare in mind? :)

A better graphics card will decrease render times. For example, a GTX 970 (a $300 card) will take about (not precisely) twice as much time to render a video with effects then a GTX 980 Ti (a $650 card). Like I said before, the GTX 980 is generally the card of chice for rendering. Those run about $450. If you want to spend around $80o you could get this:

It would be a bit easier if we had a budget, but as I recall vegas has CUDA accelerated video processing, so you'd be better of with a NVIDIA card. The GTX 970 is a good entry card for video editing. The GTX 980 is a well liked card for editing as well.

Vegas is CUDA enabled, yes!

Will a better Graphics Card help my render effects, such as grading/sharpening etc, in the real-time preview window at a better frame-rate?

Also, should I be considering upgrading my whole PC at this stage? It's about 2/3 years old now, I think!

You should be fine as long as you have a good quality 650w or better PSU.
