Here is an article reviewing various steam machines, using i3's, i5's and even i7's in more premium units. The gpu's are nvidia gtx 750ti's, 970's and 980ti's. Ram varying from 4-16gb.

Basically the same as budget to midrange gaming pc's except in a more compact case running valve's steam software. It's difficult to compare to consoles to pc's, they're not really the same. A smartphone has quadcore cpu's yet nowhere near the speed/power of say an i5 or i7 in a desktop. As others mentioned consoles are pretty much a one trick pony and highly optimized to do the task they're intended for. Being able to play dvd or bluray and stream netflix...

If you intend to run games as fluently as on the PS / Xbox byt matching the hardware, I'd say it's not possible. Games are "watered" down for the consoles and are very very optimized since every PS and Xbox is the same hardware and software wise.

Can't say what would match though.

i intend to make a steam machine.

with a better cpu/gpu then in the Xbox One/PS4. but i wish to know the equivalent of both consoles for i can see my options.

Xbone is between a 7770 and 7790. Ps4 is between a 7850 and 7870.

Cpu is a bit complicated because they have 8 cores based on amd jagaur. You could kinda say an underclocked 8120 so maybe like a stock fx 4100.

As said though, if you want at least console graphics, you're going to need better than these specs. What's your budget? Maybe an i3/i5 and r9 380?

Your options are basically the same as a gaming pc.
