I currently stream using my Elgato capture card w/ OBS, stream looks fine but my cpu will from time to time max out at 100% usage "i3 2120 Sandy Bridge". I was wanting to get a i7 6700k I realized that the sockets are different.

Would getting a i5 3550 benefit me any?
I want the i7 6700k but that would mean buying a new mobo resulting in more $$ spent.
I used this site to compare the i3 2120 to the i5 3550 http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-3550/3502vsm846
Sorry if links of this sort isn't allowed. Thanks in advance.

True, the only problem is finding one for the right price on a trusted site.

For streaming, you really want Hyperthreading or an 8core. This means that for the bulk of the games you'd be streaming you have actual cores available for streaming, instead of having to share the load between the game and streaming software.

If you're serious about streaming with high quality content, you'd have to get a decent I7 or one of the top AMD 8cores. I'd highly recommend the 6700K, haven't been streaming, but this thing is a beast, it overclocks really well, doesn't get higher than 30% load in most of the games I've been playing, keeps cool...
