How many fans can the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 hold?

The board itself can hold 3 chassis fans and 2 cpu fans. If you use just one real CPU fan then you can use a splitter for the second CPU fan since the CPU fan headers provide more power. Not to mention you can plug more chassis fans into the psu, you just won't be able to control them. But generally that is pretty much the sweetspot - 2 cpu fans for the water cooling pump + water cooling radiator, 3 chassis fans, one for the front fans with splitter one for the rear fans and one for the top/side fans (depending on where your water cooling radiator is).
