Windows 8.1 wont recognize 840 evo ssd

I've had this ssd for over a year now and I still get the same problem. . .every 2-3 months the ssd will become "undetected". By that I mean there will be no trace of the ssd on my PC . . . it basically looks like the ssd was never even plugged in. I've found a short term fix for this in the past but forgotten it. I'm tired of dealing with it and want a permanent solution.

definitely should try that . . only reason I haven't tried that is because I don't have an extra
