Simple question,

So I'm a long standing Arctic Silver 7 thermal paste user but I went with IC Diamond this time around.

The IC Diamond instructions say to apply the paste and then mush the paste onto the CPU using the liquid cooler without lifting up since air will ruin it after pressing.

Problem is, I have no freaking idea if the paste is covering the whole CPU or if it's evenly coated since the instructions says not to lift up to check. What I can say is my idle temps are a solid 6C cooler already which is extremely impressive (from 32C to 34C idle with Arctic Silver 7 down to 26c across the 6 cores). The "package temp" however is 10C higher (38C) during idle but under stress simply matches the rest of the cores (so if cores 1-6 hit 57C in GTA5 the package temp is identical). This leads me to believe that the spread of my IC Diamond is more centralized and is not covering the entire CPU.

Some say that covering the entire CPU is not necessary as 90% of the heat is dead center while others say it does help to thinly coat the entire metal die of the CPU with a credit card. I'm finding this to be IMPOSSIBLE with IC Diamond using the instructions given.

Any advice anyone? Thanks! Specs in signature

i would be surprised if it is actually 6c cooler dont think more than a couple of degrees between all the good thermal compounds

idle doesnt always mean as close to 0% cpu activity every time it could just be a few % higher than

when you checked with the artic silver

100% load is the way to see if its more effective far as i see it

if you have enough of the paste then take the block off and see how it spread the way you did it--if it was good just do the same if it wasnt good rethink how you apply it

IC Diamond is great stuff. Just put a smallish pea sized amount in the center of the CPU and mount the cooler as instructed. It will spread itself with the pressure of the mounting.

I just recently upgraded from a 2600K that I got in early 2011 and I had never removed the cooler until last month when I took it apart. I used IC Diamond on that CPU when I installed it and the paste still looked brand new here 5 years later.
