Hi there, I'm a first time buildaer and I was kind of confused about the PSU. at first I thought it wasn't really important but as I did some research I kind of realized how significant it is in a build. Basically im on a budget and I'm just curious as to what of these two PSU's would be better in terms of overall quality and everything. Ive done some research myself and I'm really just afraid of a PSU that dies because Ill have no money like literally no money to buy another one. However the two main distinguishers for me are. 80+ Ratings and wattage. Since im on a budget I figured really ant rating would do. But I live in toronto and at peak times I believe kwH rates are .175 or 17cents to the kw I mean, I dont plan on leaving my computer on 24/7 but when I have time I will be running games when I have the chance. I also was thinking about waiting till next gen gpu pascal; but since my laptop's card broke and im sure there will have to be a lot of testing and theres overall still a few months until pascal, I might as well just snag a 970. The TDP is 151 max supposedly which is fine for a 650w PSU i presumed. But since the new cards are going to come out im sure many people will be down to sell there 970's to obtain the newest GPU when it is released. Leaving me with a possible SLI? setup. sO i was also curious is 650w enough for dual sli 970's and if yes/no what PSU should I get for my needs.

All in all im just afraid of it being cheap and just dying on me out of nowhere or due to too much stress. And if you'd like to recommend a PSU , since im on a budget please keep in under 110cad if you can thanks!!

Also one last thing I dont know much about compatability but its gotta work with a skylake thanks.

Solution
Oh, yes it can change. You'll find sometimes a series will have a great 850W unit, for instance, and a crappy 750W unit, such as the EVGA GQ lineup.

What price can you get the EVGA 750W B2 for?
Labelled wattage is not important in PSUs, if anything I consider it evil (hah!). The Rosewill Photon 750W unit was a solid unit, but we do not know how the 650W model performs, as it has never been reviewed, so purchasing it would be a bit of a gamble. The Silverstone unit is bad, uses poor quality capacitors and 85C rated Chinese ones on the secondary. Here is the review for it: http://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/silverstone-strider-plus-700w-review-sst-st70f-pb/4/

The thing is, with a GTX 970, you should grab yourself a Seasonic S12ii 520W unit - it'll be perfectly fine, cheaper, and is high quality.

Thanks I see what you mean so I guess the Silverstones off the table but what about if I aim to go SLI? ANd about the gamble does the difference in wattage between its 750 predecessor and this one really change a huge factor? Thanks.

like when you compared the 750w variant of the Rosewill photon to the un reviewed 650

110cad great right on price point. whats heat like in it since I dont think use of kwh will matter much.
