Hi there

Im looking for a setup for a workstation for my office. All I use is the internet and office suite and lite QB but I want it to be fast. I want an SSD drive only no need for more then 128GB ssd , I also would rather to have windows 7 then windows 10 unless someone can convince me other wise.
no need for monitor or keyboard or mouse.

thxs in advance

Thordas,

It's possible to have very good performance with a dual core CPU if it has high single-threaded performance, high clock speed, using a good motherboard with M.2 support, and by using Intel HD 530 integrated graphics.

Here's a suggestion based on the i3-6100 and having a specification with a 240GB M.2 drive which costs only $10 more than the 120GB...
QB=Quickbooks

Using a SSD for Quickbooks will def help A LOT i can tell you that BUT it just seems no matter how fast your PC is QB when you first open a Company file ALWAYS lags for a second and says not responding. I have NEVER had it on a machine and have it not do that before.

For you I would get a i5 just so that it will last you longer. Even an i3 will do. No need for an i7. 8GB of ram is pretty much a minimum these days with things like Chrome and Firefox and IE sucking up Gigabytes of Ram while they are running.

If you go the windows 10 router it will ONLY Work with QB 2015 and 2016. Older version WILL NOT WORK PERIOD.

Windows 7 is the best for office application, for your QB or quickbook, a computer with windows 7 and i3 processor with, 2gb of RAM, and 500gb of HDD is better, if you want SSD higher than you said is the better also. Now my question is how many computer you need in your office. Is it your operations is badly need the internet?or a LAN only to access all your data. If only two computers for LAN configure it using peer to peer connections, no need switches or routers. But if you want internet for email access and research and more computers you need to setup a networks using the switches and routers. Do you know how to setup this?

I already have a network setup just need a decent computer setup that won't break the bank I think I'm ok with Intel i3. I do want ssd as its faster and I like it on my gaming machine. I would change out 2 workstations as they are getting slow

Ok I agreed on that, buy this I3 computer with SSD drive for your quick book database. Now for your gaming computer I must suggest for i7 computer with SSD for OS and HDD for your data backup and games installer.

ok 2GB of RAM? Really? What year do you think this is? 2005?? You WANT at least 8GB of ram if you want things to run without a hitch. 8GB of DDR3 is cheap and it will allow your PC to use more RAM and Less pagefile which can slow things down.

I agree on getting a 240GB SSD but again depends on what you are all going to save on there. A SSD will speed things up with quickbooks A LOT.

as for reccomeneding any i7 even for gaming you don't need an i7. If you were doing video rendering, a LOT of CPU intensive task, or something like that then yes but even for gaming you don't need more than an i5. Just if you get a i5 the PC will last you longer before you have to upgrade.

the retail support of windows 7 has ended. the free upgrade to windows 10 from 7 will end july 2016. if speed is what you want the us the ssd but add more ram and make a ram drive. also use a mb or video card that you can use two monitor set up. dont have to close qb or what your working on to open email or web. with windows 10 you dont put the pc to off. use the newer sleep mode..with ssd and windows 10 from sleep to on is less then 2 sec. also want to spend little more for the newer skylake cpu and mb. intel stop there 18 months cycle of replacing there tic/toc. doe to how hard it was for intel to get to 14mm. it going to be a few years before next cpu drops. that replaces 1151 cpu slot.

Everything I've produced on a computer since 1993 is only 74GB, but I have 1,000s of reference documents and media = 450GB. I don't keep the reference files on my Drive 1, but I do have them on Drive 1 while the project is active for quick access.

Ihe Intel HD 530 integrated graphics has quite good 2D performance and surprisingly good 3D. On an i3-6100 / ASRock H170 Pro system, the Passmark 2D score is 881 and 3D is 1048. For comparison, I have a Quadro FX4800 1.5GB GPU in a Dell Precision T5400 used for 3D modeling and the 2D = 520 and 3D = 1097. And, by the way, a Quadro FX4800 new cost $1,300,..
