Hello there

I have a Toshiba Qosmio Laptop with an I7-4700MQ cpu.

Since the last couple of months i've got temperatures around 100°C on load.

Last week I re-applied my thermal paste with Artic Silver 5.
The temperatures were around 60-70°C on load.
Now suddenly my temperatures go up to 90°C running the same program.

I applied the thermal paste as shown in the manual.

Thanks in advance!

Jente

I'm fairly certain that such temperatures would cause the CPU to turn itself off to decrease damages and i'm pretty sure a few parts holding the CPU itself in place would melt. You are DEFINITELY not getting 90C on your i7,that's for sure.
Try using a microfiber napkin and some 90% alcohol to clean up that new thermal paste and apply it again, make sure you place it in a small "pea" shape, because the paste will scatter after the heatsink is applied, don't use too much thermal paste, just a little. Now,after doing that, check the temperatures. If they are stable, great!
If they are...

I used Artic Silver 5, I heard this was a good choice.

It's just strange my temperatures were good for 1 week and suddenly it goes back up to 80-90°C

If they are still at 90C,you have a problem with your temperature sensors. At 100C,most parts (including the motherboard) would melt. And NO CPU could still be running at 80C,especially not some program.
Try using multiple software, such as CPU ID HWMonitor, the one i use.

Maybe you did not install the cpu cooler properly and now its loose. So no good contact between cpu - cooler = high temperature.

And about putting too much paste, luke from linustechtips and jayztwocents both has videos demonstrating that too much will not affect the performance. You will just empty your syringe faster.
