I'm building a new pc and i'm searhing for a good ssd to make it as my boot drive. should i go for the regular 2.5inch 850 EVO SATA 3 ssd or the M.2 version of it? speed is my priority. if both are equal in terms of speed i'd rather choose 850 EVO SATA 3 ssd and some money

Solution
Assuming mobo supports it, get the M.2. The prices seem to be the same. And it is nice to have one less set of cables.

In terms of performance, they are the same. Only issue with M.2 might be heat affecting speeds.

The m.2 version is considerably faster but your motherboard may not support it and some motherboards don't allow it to be used as a boot device.

Either check manufacturers site for your motherboards spec or post the make and model and someone can check.

the m2 version isnt faster--you are thinking of the 950 pro

the sata version 850 isnt pci-e so doesnt run at the speed of the pci-e ones

i have the sm951 m2 read/write 2000/1500

also have an evo

you wont notice a great deal of difference in use between them as the evo is so fast any way

its only if you have 2 x m2 pci-e or 1 m2 pci-e and raid0 ssds then theres a huge difference copying files from one to the other

so if you actually meant evo or a pci-e m2 not sata m2

i would stick with the evo and save some money
