I'm looking to upgrade my current build so that I can run all of 2016 games maxed out at 1080p and 60 fps. My current one is going to be 4 years old this year and I would like to re-use anything that I can from it, but at the same gain the best performance.

*This time I'm interested in going with Intel and Nvidia only - no AMD.
*I will likely be overclocking the CPU and the GPU in the future.
*I might go SLI, so I need some good recommendations on a big computer case with good airflow (full tower)
*I'm also interested in trying VR gaming this year and will be purchasing either SteamVR or Oculus Rift in a few months.

Here is my current build:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: ASRock 970 EXTREME4 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-7TE500BW)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT with Boost 2GB DDR5
Case: NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer
Monitor: ASUS VG248QE
Keyboard: G110
Mouse: Logitech G9X

Please let me know how I can make this build better and if I'm potentially wasting money on something that could be bought cheaper, but would give me similar performance.

I would like to keep the upgrade budget under $1200.

Thanks in advance for all the advice and help.

Solution
Looks good, would pass on the MSI mobo and look at maybe the Asus Z170-A or their Pro Gaming. I won't build on MSI due to their poor QC, I stick w/ Asus, GB and the Rock mobos
