I currently have an skylake i3-6300 and I'm looking to replace it with the i7 6700k. I have an msi krait z170mobo. Is there anything I have to worry about, or can I just make the swap?

So more info. My build:
Nzxt enthusiasts full tower
Z170 msi krait mobo
Corsair dominator ddr4 16gb
Nzxt kraken x60 cooler
Gtx 980 gpu
I3 6300
Samsung ssd 500gb evo
3tb seagate barracuda hdd
Windows 10 home

You can just plug and play when you do that CPU change.

The 6700K needs a CPU cooler and I would want to use something better than the stock cooler that comes with the i3. When you put on the cooler, even if you use the old one, you will need to clean it off and apply thermal paste. I would recommend something like the CRYORIG H7 as a minimum, if it will fit in your case.

I have freely swapped Haswell CPUs around and between two systems without experiencing any such problem.

That's good, but not everyone has been so fortunate. Windows does not automatically detect and install drivers for processor changes. The OP is planning to go from a CPU with 4 logical cores to 8, and from a clock speed of 3.8 to 4.0 - 4.2. Were your CPU changes between chips of equal number cores, or differing? Also, in Windows 8 & 10, the clock speed will be incorrectly reported by Task Manager until the CPU has been redetected.
