My first post on TH...

I am looking to build an ultimate home server.
I have a SYNOLOGY DS410
but would like to expand to at least 10 bay server.
I am looking for the following features.
- Excellent Wireless and Wired throughput speeds. My DS410 gives 15MBPS at best.
- Ability to add HDD with varying sizes and manufacturers. This is for future proofing. I do not want to change out all disks. Synology DS410 has this great option.
- Software or Hardware RAID option. I am open to both.
- Should be able to expand RAMs.
- Silent cooling or Liquid cooling. As long as the liquid cooling is reliable and not messy.
- Objective to store BluRay movies and Lossless music and distribute to clients in home. Max 5 persons accessing server simultaneously.
- Possibly add a Thunderbolt3 PCI card too for adding my thunderbolt storage that I presently have.
- Money no object.

Is there anyone who would build this unit for me in case I opt to get it done ? Good warraty options too.
My computer hardware skills are average.

Solution

herculepirate,

In my view, if the system has to be made by someone else and warranty provided, and there are only 5 users, why not simply buy a larger, newer version of your current server with a 6GB/s SATAIII / SAS RAID capability? For example:

ASUSTOR AS5010T 10-Bay NAS, Intel Celeron Dual-Core, 1 GB SO-DIMM DDR3L, GbE x 4, USB 3.0 & eSATA, WoL, System Sleep Mode > $845

I don't know anything about the quality or performance of this system, but the price is reasonable and appears to have a lot of features. Anything else would involve a technician buildings or modifying an existing system and the results and warranty would be open to question, so you might research along those lines of the system above and find a complete solution.

If you have about $3,000-$4,000 I could suggest something more optimized, but it would still involve technical skill and a warranty would be a question of degree.

Cheers,
