Hi!

I recently built my computer back in January of this year and ever since I got my GPU it has been freezing when playing games, watching videos or live streams, and sometimes even just idling.

I should mention that my computer never crashed prior to installing my graphics card. I was delayed in purchasing it due to cost at the time of building my computer. I couldn't do anything too intensive with it before I installed my GPU but, I did have my CPU at a stable 4.5GHz overclock before installing my GPU. I have since reverted everything back to stock speeds.

When it does freeze the last sound played continues in a loop and the computer is unresponsive and requires a hard reset via the power button. The reset button on my case does nothing but it works when it is not frozen.

I recently re-seated my GPU and Memory in hopes of it being a bad connection to the motherboard but that seems to have made the freezes occur every time I am playing games. I should note that the GPU is performing as it should. No frame rate issues at all.

I have been researching this issue non stop over the past month or so and have turned up no results. After my research though, I have been considering replacing parts, namely my power supply, motherboard, and memory.

I ran memtest and my memory passed with no issues. Stress Testing my CPU and GPU has turned up no results as they pass those tests just fine.

I have made sure that windows and all my drivers are up to date.

Specs are as follows:

  • Motherboard - ASUS Maximus VIII Hero
    CPU - Intel Core i5 6600k
    Memory - 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400
    Power Supply - Corsair RM1000 1000W
GPU - ASUS Strix 980ti OC Edition
    Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB(Boot Drive) - Seagate 3TB 7200RPM
Operating System - Windows 10 Pro
Solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: It seems that increasing the voltage on my GPU via MSI Afterburner has solved my crashing!

Solution
UEFI latest version? Also the latest Nvidia drivers have been causing odd issues for some. I'd rollback a few versions to see if there is any improvement. What happens in safe mode?

I was up to date with the UEFI but there was a new release earlier this month. I'll update ASAP

Not sure about safe mode, I could give it a shot.

This has also been happening regardless of the drivers for my GPU. I could try reverting back to an older one though.
