should i upgrade my video card now, or save more money for a real nice card? also do i need to upgrade? this card still runs all games out pretty well. just doesnt have direct x 12. im looking to buy either a amd r9 390, or a nvidea gtx 970.
i can also buy the r9 280x for cheap has the same amount of stream processors and is direct x 12.
They are same graphics core.
For 1080p I seriously doubt you need any more GPU power than what you have. I keep hearing DX12, DX12, but by the time significant amounts of DX12 games are available you will be able to purchase a cheap mid-range graphics card that is faster than the high end ones available now.
If on your resolution and the settings you want you get the fps that you want then you dont need to upgrade. If you dont then an upgrade would be useful
The only reason to upgrade to a DX12 GPU is if you will really want to play a dx12 game which you cant play on dx11 gpu's which pretty much not possible...
The 7970 is DX12.. I would keep your card till the next gen graphics cards are out in a couple months and then upgrade. No point upgrading to a card that will be replaced with a better one in 2-3 months that will use less power and have more features ect..

no the 7970 is i believe direct x 11.2 but not direct x 12, if it was 12 i would not even think about getting a new card.
It is DX12.. Use windows 10 and AMD's drivers for windows 10 and it supports DX 12. Here is a link to AMD's announcement that basically any GCN video card supports DX12. If you scroll towards the bottom it says and 7000 series GPU 7730 and up. http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/directx12
