Like the title says my father is in an assisted living center and is a disabled vet. He constantly complains of the way he's being treated by the staff there and they all say he's lying. He's never been a man to lie and he's most certainly not incoherent.

I found this item on eBay and I think it's perfect for what I'd like to set up but for the life of me I can't think of something to plug the RCA out cable into to record what's going on. I've thought of an old VCR and set the record to low settings so I can get as much time as possible but I'd like to use something that will run out of recording space before it will run out of power.

Any thoughts on what I can use to plug into the receiver part of the nanny cam that can be hard wire powered and will record for long periods of times. I don't care to play with the motion detection parts of this I just want something to continuously record until the amount of space is full. The most space I can use is idea.

Solution
Kisorsosay,

I am not really going to offer a technical "solution" per se.

A nanny cam will not solve or otherwise "prove" anything and may even be illegal.

Any camera's, recorders, etc. would be quickly disabled or otherwise rendered useless by staff if there was something to hide.

The truth is that anyone (such as our familiy for 11 + years) dealing with a loved one in a nursing home or other care facilty will hear the same complaints.

It is not a matter of lying, deceit, or incohence. The mind and perceptions of our elders change and drift away from reality.

Your concern is valid. However, the best solution is to do so some research on your own, take a good look at the environment around your father, and truly see the way...

What your father expects may not (for any number of reasons) be practical or advisable.

Complaints are one thing. Abuse is another. You have to determine the difference - a camera will not help.

Denial is a stage within many situations and illnesses.

If your father is clean, safe, and otherwise okay the staff is probably doing their job and doing it well. We can all complain about "things" but stepping back and putting things in perspective is the hard part.

Learn more about elder care and the mental/physical health of your father. Then you can truly help far beyond a mere camera and some recordings.... And that help is for your father, your family, and you.

That is the gist of it all. Believe me. And I am sure that many others in this forum known and understand.
