Hello, i was wondering if using paper tissues is allowed to clean off old thermal paste, ofcourse in combination with alcohol. Are there other methods then alcohol to use?

Kind regards, Cedric.

If you guys mean coffeefilters i assume simple ones like this,

So with using coffeefilters i do not need any substance? The processor i will clean is the one i am using to put in into my new computer this week. Will the thermal paste be rock solid when starting on the cleaning part?

Cedric.

I am using nail polish remover which is essentially acotone. It is cheap, but you should be careful buying one that has no added ingredients (fragrances etc.) just acetone and water.

But as someone suggested before, you might be able to remove it without any solvant.
Also, I am fine using paper tissues, I haven't had any problems with them. I usually clean the CPU with a dry microfibre cloth after there is no thermal paste left.

You're probably overthinking this. It might've made more difference when thermal pads were standard, but leaving a tiny residue of old paste is unlikely to make any measurable difference, nor will a few specs of paper lint. I typically gently wipe with whatever I have around at the time (paper towel, old shirt, etc.) until the surface looks clean.
