I have a PC running 32 bit win xp having a old motherboard with on board graphics card. The card does not support Windows 7 Aero. The Motherboard is not Upgradeable. Can I Install Windows 7 and get it working on my PC if I do not need Aero.

Solution

A new or used video card like this GeForce 6200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130635 would be fine and it's...

Windows 7 will work if drivers for the motherboard are available (LAN, audio and chipset).

I ran Upgrade Advisor which says all other drivers viz Audio, Storage Controller, Universal Host Controller, LAN etc. are compatible save and except the Graphics Adapter and the Graphics controller driver. I meet all other requirements regarding CPU speed, RAM, available hard disc space etc. Could I ask if there is a solution so that I don't get stuck up at low resolution.

Video cards and integrated adapters have a basic low res mode that will run with no graphics driver.

You should be able to do an install.

Then, the question is will be if you can find a windows 7 driver for the integrated graphics adapter on your motherboard.
Look at the driver download support section for your motherboard.

My PC Uses Intel 845 GVSR motherboard with a 8X AGP expansion slot. As far as I gather Intel has no driver support for this motherboard. The Processor is having a speed of 2.26GHZ. I work mostly in MS Excel and do not use Games or other applications that require much of graphics. I could have, very well stayed with XP, had the support to it would not have been withdrawn. Please let me know what type of video card can I install with a 8X AGP expansion slot. I am not much literate on the subject, and therfore, tender my apologies in case I have not been able to provide you with adequate information.

You'll be hunting on ebay for agp cards I'm afraid, and I don't think you'll find current gpu drivers from either AMD or nvidia to support them, probably not even matrox.

Why not just stick with XP? what does the withdrawal of support mean to you?

I think it is time to replace the pc.
It was never supported by Windows 7, so not only will you be missing the video drivers, but the chipset drivers also.
The AGP graphics dese have some cards available. Here is one.

The IDE hard drive interface is also old.
If you do a clean install of windows 7, you will erase the current contents of your hard drive.

When you add the cost of windows 7 and the need for a discrete graphics card, you will be better off buying a replacement.
You should be able to buy something with windows 7 included that performs better for $200 or so on ebay.
Here is one example:

A new or used video card like this GeForce 6200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130635 would be fine and it's faster than the on-board graphics controller.
