My pc had a really crappy psu which got burned out after overheating. Smoky smell and everything. Now I replaced it but it won't start up normally anymore. I don't understand what else it might have damaged after it overheated. Im wondering it might be the cpu but I want to know if this is common. The issue is it freezes on start up wont let me get into my desktop on Windows 10. I can log in some times and I can go into safe mode but not use it as I regularly would. I don't have spare parts to test if it is the cpu or not.

Yes, but its only for file storage. I have my OS on an ssd, and my files on a hard drive it seems to be uncorrupted as I can see the files and access the os via safe mode but that can just be because the os safe mode is as its implied, safe. Or it could be that since its not using much the cpu can handle that mode but when it comes to the desktop proper and trying to load it all in it won't work. I'm gonna order a new cpu if that's the case if i get enough info on whether or not it is. My gpu and cpu were very hot when it overheated so it might have damaged them so I'm gonna try to load it without a gpu later today just in case

their is a good chance your cpu is still good. a few things i would try first would be make a new partition on one of the drives and install windows on that partition. i would do this on the hdd if you can

Alright so how would I make a new partition I'm kinda new to the technical side of windows. And I don't really have a disc or an install of Windows 10 so I might be able to find a download and install it on a drive or something.

Update: I was able to load into the desktop but froze on arrival

go to disk management and srink the current partition by like 40 gigs. yes you can find the isos online. loaded into desktop? was that a new installation? or the current one?

Its the current one, thank you for letting me know how to do it but yeah I was able to get into the desktop being able to move my mouse for like a sec before it went into eternal freeze untill I restarted it.

was that safe mode? do you have another computer that you could use

No, I mentioned it that I was able to enter safe mode before and move and do stuff regularly in it but it was a limited use so I can't do stuff I want to do in it but now I'm kinda able to enter desktop without safe mode before it freezes. Actually I went into my bios And modified a couple of fan stuff And installed a new hard drive using a data cable outside And yes I can use another computer just in case I need to download the os online.

if you installed a new hard drive i would put a new copy of windows on that

It was a kentek 700 watt psu and I replaced it with an evga 750 80+ B2. If the mother board was damaged would it not run at all? What should I be watching out for? I made a post about the PSU and someone resolved it but after I had gotten the new one everything seems beloved patriot dory until I actually start to run something like trying to get into the desktop which has a bunch of preloads if I'm remembering correctly (steam, discord, chrome etc.) the PSU broke because I was trying to play the divisiom for the first time and I was thruster into the game before i could tweak the settings. Anyway that's what happened in a nutshell from my last thread to this one.
