So I currently have a lenovo Y510P with dual gt 750m cards. But ark does not support sli. So I am getting like 11fps on medium settings.

Guess it is time to build a desktop

Is something like this a good build?

What would be a good build to run Ark? I plan on just hooking the rig to my tv.

Budget is anywhere from $500-$1200.

Any input would be great!

Solution

If you can afford it (and you sound like you can) then get the i7, it'll last a lot longer and is harder to replace than just a GPU, so you'll have a stronger core that'll last longer, and you might want to do more with it VR might benefit from more cores?

My 3470k @ 4.3 is not being stressed at all even after 4 years, and I see it still be valid in 2 years time, if i'd got the i7, that might be an extra 3-4 years from now. So it's still a very ling time assuming that progress is at a similar speed to what it has been.

You might want to bump the PSU to 850W, or drop it to 600-650. 850...

Are you looking for a prebuilt desktop, the parts for a desktop, or a laptop? It's kind of hard to run ark with even the best hardware just because it's in early access and its not optimized very well.

I am just looking for the best parts I can get to build a desktop. My friend just spend $500 and built a rig that gets around 30fps on high in ark. So I know with 500-1200 it should be no problem.

So your suggesting the first build then? Or is there a better way to go for the money? Would the evo cooler be good on that?

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't touch a Kraken X31, a Cryorig R1 or Noctua D15 would be a better purchase.

You might want to bump the PSU to 850W, or drop it to 600-650. 850 will take SLI for virtually anything, 750 is more limited. 600-650 meanwhile will easily cope with any single card. 750 is just a weird middle ground.

So hows this? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Qk37cf

Might well do, i'm just biased that way, there are so few cases where AMD wins (other than throttling) that I think they are running closer to the ragged edge to get the perf that they do, that's not great to my mind.
