Using old XSPC pump/res combo with new pump

Hello,

I am looking at getting a new pump for my custom loop.
I originally bought a kit from XSPC, the Raystorm 750 RS360 a little over 3 years ago and it has performed great over the years.
This last December I upgraded my GPU to a GTX 980 Ti Water block (http://).
Recently my current pump/res combo started making some noise and im worried that it may be going out with the additional resistance of cooling another component and not having enough flow to handle the system.

I've read good things about the Swiftech MCP655TM (http://) and the MCP50X (http://) and would like to purchase one or something similar. Right now my loop only includes my cpu and gpu but could add others in the future.

My question is, can I use my current pump/res combo (http://) , leaving the pump unpowered, as just a res and put the new pump into the loop or do I need to get a new res for this pump? If I do need to get a new res, what would be an affordable option as a Dual Bay (no need for fancy leds or designs)?

Thanks!

Solution
Due to the internal construction and placement of the 750L pump in your bay res the unit will offer restriction and may even cause the pump to run and impede flow in your loop. If you can recall there was a similarly designed bay res by XSPC which was specifically designed for D5 variant of pumps. Thankfully XSPC have introduced a new pump/res combo dubbed the Photon and you can buy it in either the DDC variant or the D5 variant. I'd personally opt for the D5 variant while if your cases doesn't accepts big pumps and would like control via the CPU fan header then go for the DDC.

XSPC DDC Photon 270
but if you'd want to get back yur old dual bay res feel in your build back again;
XSPC D5 Dualbay res.

Lutfij,

Thanks for all the information and the links. I decided to get the D5 270. I like the dual bay res but it sounds like there are high chances of leaking and id rather not worry about it and its nice to have a larger fluid capacity. Also ordered new tubing and fittings to redo my whole loop, time for a refresh.

Thanks again!
