I have the following system and when I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 I found out that my motherboard is not supported and will not have drivers for Windows 10. It does however have driver for Windows 8.1.

Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.4mhz
Asus P8H67-V Motherboard
8 mb RAM
Earthwatts 650W EA650
Video card MSI Geforce GTX Hawk 560ti OC

After spending the better part of a day on line with Microsoft to try and fix a user profile problem upon the free upgrade, reverting back to Windows 7 and trying the upgrade again, I am a bit leery to try the free upgrade again with Windows 8.1 drivers. I don’t really have that much time to waste yet again.

So if want Windows 10 I basically have to change my motherboard. The hitch is that I can’t really afford a new system.

Can I simply replace the motherboard and keep the processor or is the processor too old? If I can replace the motherboard do you have any models to suggest either Asus or Gigabyte.

Is it even worth it to replace only the motherboard? Also if I replace the motherboard, does that limit me too much later on if I want to replace the CPU for a better one?

I have tried to research it myself but I don’t really understand all the details and specifications for which CPU goes with what motherboard.

Unfortunately the LGA1155 platform was deemed dead once the 9 series of chipsets came to be so if you do shell out on a new motherboard it will in fact be pseudo new in that either it'll have 90 days warranty, be sold second hand(without warranty) or be so expensive you'll see yourself moving to the latest platform in the LGA1151 socket which is powered by the 100 series chipsets.

Sadly you're confined to the motherboards listed in this article(e.g: Asus):

Might I ask why you'd like to move to Windows 10? From what I've seen on the forums, it's not a good story and most are opting to go back to their older OS if they upgraded to Windows 10. Don't get me wrong, the new OS looks great but it has a lot left to iron/polish out before it wins everyone's heart.
