Right now I currently have an iMac. I can just click on the wifi symbol and connect to my router which is in another room. If I'm building a pc, what part do I have to install for it to detect my router and connect to it wirelessly.

Depending on what you can spend and routers capabilities, the next options,
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac68,gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di,tp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn822n/
i have both the cheapest and most expensive, both work well, the cheapest is limited to the 2.4ghz band and limted in performance by that. The Gigabyte has still both bands to use,2.4/5ghz,and has bluetooth as a bonus. These have a movable antenna which i favor for the best signal.
There's a dualband version of the cheapest one, though more expensive of course...

If you are building a desktop, then you either need to choose a motherboard with WIFI or add a WIFI card to the build. If you have a configuration chosen in pcpartspicker that you can post, we can tell you if you have all the necessary components.

the Gigabyte seems to be a better option for the price.Wanted to give it anyway, maybe not all are available.

The other option you have is Powerlines, these work via the powergrid of the house,
http://www.newegg.com/Powerline-Networking/SubCategory/ID-294?Tpk=powerline
they use the powercables to get the signal where it should be.
