Today i installed a new i5 4690k with a cooler master hyper 212 evo.

i checked the idle temp in my bios and it said it was around 37c-38c

i was wondering if this is a normal idle temp or not.

also i should mention that this is without an overclock.

im just asking to be safe, im kind of a noob when it comes to CPUs.

Solution
Idle temperatures are meaningless since:
- the temperature sensor is extremely inaccurate at low temperatures (see the number of people who say their CPU reports 20-30C when their room temperature is above 30C, which is physically impossible without using chilled liquid loop or other below-ambient cooling method)
- depending on your motherboard's thermal profile, the fans might be practically stopped when the CPU temperature is below 40C or so
- unless there is a huge heatsink mounting mistake, idle does not put out enough heat to really indicate any issue there

Yep, as has been stated above, idle temps are meaningless unless you're running at like 70C or something crazy like that. The general rule of thumb is that idle should be about 5-10C above ambient with non-chilled cooling (roughly), but again, as stated, the sensors are less accurate at lower temps, anyway.
