Hard drive disappering

My new Wd 320gb internal hard drive (Sata )disappears when i connect DVD writer even from BIOS. But i somehow was able to install windows 7. All part are working fine.I tried them separately and they work.
Configuration
Motherboard-Intel DG41RQ
1GB DDR2 RAM
2.7 Intel Dual core E5400 Processor
320 Gb WD internal Hard drive (refurbished)

That is unpleasant. :(
Though, it sounds like some kind of a connection issue to me.

You can try several simple things:
- Go to your MOBO's website and update your drivers.
- Attach the drive to another SATA port.
- Use different SATA and power cables. You can just swap them.

Even though I believe the HDD is not causing all of this, it would be a good idea to check it's health status out. You can test it with WD's DLG tool(both short & extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=gPC3qZ

Yeah. I know it's been more than a year but you tried to help so I figured I should let you know how it went. It was a psu issue. I should have realized it. See it was failing and couldn't support both the DVD writer and the HDD at the same time. That is why the HDD was disappearing. Thanks .
