So i am thinking to upgrade my old system: core duo e4500 to i3 4170. Also im gonna replace the intel dp35dp with the MSI Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard. As for graphics, hd 4650 untill i got some money to upgrade it with a gtx 750 ti. Will these parts work together? Also i want to find a pc case really cheap so i can fit all those components. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. :)

Why don't you go for skylake i3 6100 the difference in price range is pretty 15$ or so and believe me skylake is far better then 4th Gen in every single way also it's ddr4 ram capable

I would suggest

i3 6100
H170 mobo cuz z series are mobo for overclocking and if your buying a locked cpu then it serves no purpose

Ok i might go with that, but i have one question. DDR4 RAM that comes with 2 modules, are kinda 100$. I want something cheaper than that, at least for now. So will i be able to buy 2 sticks of ram (the same) that does not come in pair, or there will be a problem?

The very same thing happened to me so I bought 4gb corsair vengeance ddr4 2400mhz but go for g.skill as I was on a very tight budget I went with corsair and yeah 4gb is enough I would say as I'm playing all the games aaa titles including division and my ram doesn't utilize more then 70% of the 4 GB.....but do know it's windows 10 as windows 10 is the best OS windows has ever created it doesn't need much ram......and you can upgrade later if you want more ram as h170 mobo has 4 ram slot

Going for a "Z" motherboard has it's purposes if it can be found for the same or just a little higher price.Faster ram can be bought and when upgrading is there the posibility to choose a "K"chip'. It seems that sometimes faster ram can alleviate the "bottleneck" which an i3 can give a little.

If you want more ram it's better to buy a set that matches what you want.Adding ram can give problems even though in theory it should work.Look at the following,

Look under "Just Add More DRAM".

The h170 mobo doesnt support more than 2133Mhz ram speed. Or at least thats what it says. So how does this work?

Unfortunately h170 and all the mobo chipsets supporting skylake can only support 2133mhz and if that's a deal breaker for you then the only option you have is z170 mobo

Also if you look at YouTube video saying does faster ram influence the game well 2133mhz vs 3000mhz the result came in with just 1-2 fps difference...as it's as fact that ram speed is suitable in other tasks and in gaming it doesn't effect much

So if I were you I would go for H170 mobo and yeah you can buy 2400mhz and install it in h170 mobo as 2133mhz ram are ugly ram without heatsink so I bought corsair vengeance red edition 2400mhz although my mobo being h110
