Solution

Sorry, I had forgotten that your system is too old. You don't have much of a choice; if being able to monitor the CPU temperature is really important, then you may have to replace the motherboard. However, I have a few more questions.

- Is the CPU temperature displayed in the BIOS?
- Have you tried booting from a different source, e.g., https://falconfour.wordpress.com/tag/f4ubcd/ and used the included HWmonitor? Does it also fail? If not, then something in your OS prevents monitoring tools from working.

If it can't be detected in the BIOS and the rescue DVD, then the...

I looked at the temps on BIOS, and always displays the same number, 20 degrees celsius. It never changed while i monitored it for 5 minutes, the temps of motherboard and other parts had ups and downs, but not the CPU temp. Also 20 degrees is impossible to be true, my CPU idles at around 38-40 degrees celsius.
