If even Intel XTU can't read the temperature, then the motherboard likely is the issue.
I can't even install Intel XTU it says "unsupported platform"
Sorry, I had forgotten that your system is too old. You don't have much of a choice; if being able to monitor the CPU temperature is really important, then you may have to replace the motherboard. However, I have a few more questions.
- Is the CPU temperature displayed in the BIOS?
- Have you tried booting from a different source, e.g., https://falconfour.wordpress.com/tag/f4ubcd/ and used the included HWmonitor? Does it also fail? If not, then something in your OS prevents monitoring tools from working.
If it can't be detected in the BIOS and the rescue DVD, then the sensor definitely is no longer working.
