Just Installed a gtx 970 into my pc and twice now my pc has turned itself off and rebooted itself saying something about the power supply and my pc was restarted by the anti surge protection my specs are i5 3570k and p8h77-v and 16gb 1600mhz ram and psu is 600w alpine jsp-600p12p I have turned of the surge protection and it works with no issues do I need to replace this power supply unit

Solution
Yes because your PSU is junk, to be honest, and is a hazard to your entire computer. if you were smart, you would replace it before your hardware gets damaged. Or your house catches on fire.

For the specs mentioned so far, a good quality 650W unit should be far more than enough, giving you headroom for overclocking (and upgrades in the future). The horrible Alpine PSU your PC uses is absolute junk, could be a potential fire hazard. Here is an example of a fine PSU:

You could save some money and get a good 550W PSU, should be sufficient too.
