Hi,

Just purchased a new 4TB WD Green HDD and it seems to be unable to be seen by the BIOS or windows 10.

I've checked device manager and disk management but can't see any references anywhere. Driving me crazy!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi there XxFlamedxX,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive.

I would totally agree with ArtPog. I would also say that as the drive is not recognized by BIOS, there is either something wrong with the connections or the drive itself. You could encounter some issues with using a drive that is bigger than 2 TB but you really need to get it recognized by BIOS first.
So, you can use different cables(SATA & power ones) and different SATA port as it was already suggested. Attaching the drive to another system will not hurt as well.
In case the issue persists and the drive is not recognized by BIOS, my suggestion would be to contact the place where you got it from or WD's Support and eventually RMA the drive...
Solve the part where BIOS can't see it and the rest should sort itself out. If you can't find it in BIOS nothing on your PC can see it. Not all computers support disks larger than 2tb. Have you checked if your PC supports larger drives?

If the disk is not detected in the BIOS then you're either dealing with a defective disk or something is amiss with your system in terms of a bad connection of the disk to the motherboard.

You've double-checked the data/power connections of the disk to the motherboard's SATA connector & PSU?
Changed the SATA data cable? Changed to another PSU power connector?
Connected the disk to the same SATA port presently being used by your boot drive and connecting the boot drive to another SATA port of the motherboard?

Have another PC handy to which you can use to connect the HDD?
Can you connect the HDD as an external USB device?

And you're not experiencing ANY problems with your system other than this one? The PC boots & functions without any problems except this one involving lack of recognition of this secondary HDD?

Hi All,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I ran through the issue with WD support and following a lenghty troubleshooting process they RMA'd the drive. The new one was installed today first time without issue.

Cheers!
