Should I upgrade my 970 GPU or my 4790k CPU?

I was thinking of either getting a 980 ti or getting a 5820k with a new MOBO and DDR4 ram. Its around the same cost for either upgrade. Which would give me better performance?

Solution
A 4790k is more than enough for gaming and will be for some time, games will not utilize the 6 cores and 12 threads of a 5820k most barely utilize the 4 cores and 8 threads in an 4790k. In fact I have seen some games perform worse on the 5820k vs the 4790k. The 980 ti would be the better upgrade for a gamer, but like I said if your on a 1080p 60hz monitor dont expect much of a difference vs the 970.

The best choice for you is the 980ti, it will give better performance than the CPU upgrade (Your 4790k is more than enough already!)
And, just my opinion, DDR4 is not worth the current prices, and may only be useful for you if you want a more future-proof build as new processors may only have a DDR4 memory controller :/

Better performance in what? Gaming? If so a 5820k would do little to nothing for performance in games. A 980 ti on the other hand would improve performance quite a bit, unless your on a 1080p 60hz or lower res monitor the 970 will do a pretty good job maxing most games at 1080p 60fps. So in that case a 980 ti wouldn't really be worth it without a monitor upgrade as well, in my opinion.

I game a lot but I was just looking for the best overall upgrade for my PC. I plan on casually upgrading everything I can to go up in resolutions eventually.
