I have sli 780ti's so I'm partial to them vs the 970 which doesn't perform as well. The 780ti has a gb less ram but the cpu has 7.1 billion transistors vs the 970's 5 billion.

The 780ti is better for gaming than the 970 because of this and can run most games @2160p on it's own (it won't run dying light or bioshock infinite @ 2160p on it's own though which is why I wen't sli).

The 980 outperforms the 780ti by a small amount, and the 980ti by about 30%. The 900 series has better gpu overclocking capabilities (you can usually get between 1250-1400mhz on the gpu) whereas the 700 series has about 1ghz ram overclocking capability depending on the model. The gpus of the 700 series don't overclock well (usually 100mhz if you're lucky and that will often fail when gaming), not sure about the 900 series ram overclocking capabilities as I don't own one.

Not really, the more transistors a gpu has the more powerful it is, this is true of every gpu. The best gpu of each generation has the most transistors. I believe the 980ti has 9 billion and as such it outclasses every other card (for now).

Assuming more transistors equals better card only really applies to GPUs with the same architecture, which isn't the case here. And even then, there are cases like the GTX 780 and 780 ti, which are listed as having the same transistor count but obviously have different performance (same for 980 and 970). Which means that the 780 is outperformed by the 970, despite the latter having less transistors. And even when the transistor count is different in cards with the same architecture, the difference isn't proportional to the difference in performance.

I'ts like comparing raw processing power (GFLOPS) to compare GPU performance in games. Yes, you can do it, but it's pretty inaccurate.

No way i just sold my old r9 280x because the drivers are crappy and while editing the gpu crashes. When no acceleration is enabled then its very slow bu at least it wont crash also in the gaming side its just horrible how it just overheats and crashes again
