It's a couple years old external HDD. I am using Ext HD enclosure of USB3.

Anyway, I used to get speeds of around 60mb/s when copying a movie to it.
Nowadays, I get a very unstable speeds. it can go upto 60mb/s one second and then drop to 4mb/s and then even lower and then higher and etc.

It makes clicking noises also. I tested on multiple PCs so I know issue is in the HDD.
I ran a chkdsk including a check for bad space. it said nothing was found.
I could defrag it, but I don't think that's the issue.

Unfortunately, I don't have another EXT HD enclosure nor a USB cable right now to test with, to check if maybe they cause the issue.

Anything else I can do?

Thanks!

As time passes for Hdd they tend to wear out and they give out signals of impending failure. So its better to take data back-up when the hdd gives out the sign.
I suggest you take regular back up.
