Update: I found this "1.These adapters will allow you to install LGA771 Xeon processors on an LGA775 motherboard." Someone else told me that an LGA 771 won't physically fit in an LGA 775 socket?

Easy it mods the pads to make a LGA 771 cpu (Xeon) work in LGA 775 board. Basically they are very similar with just a couple pads that are different, it allows the right contacts to be made allowing a LGA 771 CPU to work in a LGA 775 board. The LGA 771 Xeons tend to have higher clock speeds for less money and also overclock really well. You also might have to mod the socket slightly to use this as the notches are in a different spot so you just get rid of them on the socket to allow the cpu to fit properly.

You can use this to put a Xeon processor onto a 775 board, but Xeons are 771 socket, so it's a converter. I don't see the point of it. You get Xeon 5450 or like the other 5000 series Xeons

It is important to know your board has to have a bios that supports this. Sometimes you get lucky.

You will have to cut part of the LGA plastic housing to fit the 771 CPU, at this point you better ensure you place the cpu in the right way.
