Gpu or Cpu for autodesk maya

I am a graphics designer and freelancer and need to upgrade my pc to increase my workflow.
This is my current setup
I5 3550
8gb ram
gt 610 gpu

Now i was wondering if i have to upgrade my cpu or gpu depending on maya's usage.

Bootom line : Gpu uprade or cpu upgrade?

Not enough to matter for the price. It's maybe a 30% increase so 20 mins would only be down to 15 min. If you want a decent enough step up, you need more cores, not just ht and newer architecture. I don't think you have any issue in workflow in that area if rendering is only 20 min. Spending all that money to save 5 min makes no sense.

A gpu would make the viewports have higher fps if that is what you mean by more frames for the buffer. I don't know if what you are working on with that gpu gets a decent amount as to not stutter around when trying to model.

You should be familiar with where the issues are in your workflow then figure out what you need to do to improve that. I don't know where you are wasting time waiting for the pc to...

Would going with a skylake i7 help. Or should i add a 970 which would be much cheaper. I am looking at a render time of 20 mins now and i doubt that i will see an improvement with a gpu but i am looking at more frames for the buffer, am i not?
