I want a seasonic because I heard they are good.I want to get platuim because I want the best is this overkill ?

What are your full specs?
Seasonic does make quality units, but there are other phenomenal manufacturers out there that are just as good (if not better).
Platinum is not necessarily required either.

In the future high-wattage modelx of PSUs will become obsolete. Upcoming GPUs will use less power, and the GTX 960 overclocked is only about 130W.

It should be sufficient for 970 or 980 SLI, but realistically this is a bad time to think about upgrading to those. New Pascal GPUs are coming in June, so why not wait until then and get the newer more powerful and less power-hungry cards?
