I installed 2 sticks of g.skill ares 16gb(2x8) 1866mhz/10-11-10-30/1.5v in the first dual channel (slot 1 & 3) and an 8gb (1x8) 1866mhz/10-11-10-30/1.5v in the second channel (slot 2). When I run cpu-z/speccy etc. It reads @ 666mhz (1333mhz dual) and the clock at 9-9-9-24. Im running a 970 Extreme4 Mobo that is capable of supporting up to 2100 Mhz (oc) or 1866Mhz. So, when I went into bios and manually changed each ram stick to 10-11-10-30, and the clock speed to the rated 1866mhz I was getting some really effed up readings. The ram frequency became unstable in speccy and it was going for 666 then crashing to 0 then spiking up high, and I had some weird things happen like after I saved the bios and exited then it wouldnt display anything even tho I could hear the pc running, I had to hard kill the pc and restart then it would load windows and even then when I checked the MHZ it was still hovering around 667Mhz in cpuz which would be 1333mhz dual. I finally got all the settings back to auto in the bios and everything is running fine again but can anyone tell me is there something Im not doing probperly? I really want to get the maximum mhz out of my ram because I am running a Ram Drive and atm the ram drive is not much better than my actual HDD.

You'll have an easier time with this if you pull the module from slot 2 and just use the 16GB kit. That should work together just fine and run at the speed you're trying to set it to. My guess is your 3rd module isn't quite compatible -- this can be the case even if it's the same brand and model with the same specifications.

Were they bought at different times? If they were they may have changed chip vendors, or there could be something else thats different. I agree with joe, pull the extra 8gb module out and leave the kit you bought in and see what happens. You don't even need 16gb of ram so the extra 8 isn't going to do anything for you anyway.
