Hi everyone!

New to the forum, but I want to ask a question. I need a low-profile graphics card for my Optiplex 755 SFF, but it needs to be powered by the PCI-E slot, as the PSU is proprietary and does not have any extra connectors. It needs to be quite good, and also cheap (around £60/$86 USD). Any ideas?

First of all i advise spending about £80-£100 on the graphics card but in your situation (funnily i am in the exact same situation) i would definetely advise getting a pcie riser and running your video card outside your build. As for the graphics card i would advise the gtx 750 ti from msi. And despite what it says on the page your psu does have enough power and it needs no extra cables.

Unfortunately, that SFF design Dell used for the 755, will limit you to a true single-slot gfx card. The PCIe x16 slot sits right next to the drive cage. http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3515/8838.755SFF.JPG

This is about the best there is for that design in low profile: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007709%20600519936%20600038363%20600038364%20600007797%20600007799
And I'm afraid the Evga models might even be too wide. You'll have to measure. If so, the PNY 2GB is probably the best.

Thanks for the reply, and how curious it is we're both in the exact same boat! I wouldn't have thought of that myself, so thanks for the idea. Also,I didn't know the 750Ti was motherboard powered. Now I could just route the riser through the expansion slot. I do have a few doubts though, since small children will be around the setup, and kids and computer hardware don't mix...
Anyway, thanks for the input, you're a real lifesaver.

Your welcome but i just wanted to say that the normal gtx 750 ti does need external power but the one that i gave you a link to does not and also i think you may need to bend the cable a bit so that it fits through the slot. I am currently saving up to buy the gpu and the pcie riser. So i wish you good luck. Also i would advise to try to keep it out of the reach of children and place it on a non conductive material.
