Hey All,
Making a new build here soon, and wanted to get into M.2 drives. I will be getting 2 GTX 980 ti's http://www.amazon.com/Asus-MATRIX-GTX980TI-P-6GD5-GAMING-ASUS-Graphics-Cards/dp/B01931HM7K?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s03

and an M.2 Samsung 950 pro, on an Asus Maximus viii

I know when you use m.2 drives, it disables certain things, or makes things run slower then they should. My question is, will I be fine in having two gpu's in sli, my M.2 drive. And be able to add 2 SSD's (850 Pros in raid 0) later on down the road? Or will there be a bottleneck/ slow down in speeds in anything?

Solution
Hello... I see plenty of sata controllers on that MB for drives... just be aware that you will lose function of one/some ( intel controller?) with the m.2 card use... and not be a sudden surprise to you.

"*1 The The M.2 slot shares bandwidth with U.2 slot and SATA Express 1 slot." from here... https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-VIII-FORMULA/specifications/

It will be a good multi GPU SLI setup option.

Also, will i be able to use this M.2 drive a my main boot drive, and still achieve faster speed then SATA, and be able to run 2 gtx 980 ti's in sli

Hello... 1) PCIe/M.2 faster than SATA for sure, here is the intel models: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/solid-state-drives/intel-ssd-dc-family-for-pcie.html
Samsung 950 pro: Form Factor M.2 SEQUENTIAL READ SPEED Max. 2,500 MB/s SEQUENTIAL WRITE SPEED Max. 1,500 MB/s
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/ssd950pro/specifications.html

2) https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-VIII-FORMULA/specifications/
Supports NVIDIA® Quad-GPU SLI™ Technology
2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8, gray)

I see Two well placed and Wide Open PCIe3 X16 slots... unless you want some freaky weird super wide/Long 3 (?) fan model... This MB is made right, for a Consumer like you. B )
