Adding new RAM to old? Compatibility with timings, latency, voltage, etc.

First off, I know... Shoot me in the face for asking this question, but I genuinely am struggling to find the answer that addresses each of my issues. I'll keep it short.

MOBO: ASRock Z87 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Old RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0

I can't find that exact RAM anymore since it is a few years old. I wanted to add 8GB to take it up to 16GB, but now I'm trying to match everything to make sure it is compatible. My issues:

- If I can't get the exact same RAM, do I just need any RAM that has the same timing, latency, and voltage? The speed and brand can differ?

- Any recommendations for RAM that would be compatible with the old RAM I listed above? I'm having a hard time finding 1.35v that matches everything else.

- Any pros/cons to adding two 4GB sticks with the old 8GB stick?

Sorry for the lamest question ever. If anyone can help it is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

you can get the sticks at in canada newegg canada

or in the us at amazon.com amazon.com

here are specs of you ram

DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800)
Timing 9-9-9-24
Cas Latency 9
Voltage 1.35V

If you don't buy this again, try to find the same specs to be sure you don't run into trouble.
The problem if you add 2 X 4 GB, is that the pc won't run the memory in dual channel witch isn't a big deal but if you want optimum you have to get pair number of ram stick (2 X or 4 X) not 1 or 3 sticks.
It is, indeed, preferable to get the same ram sticks.

Just look at the user manual to be sure you can run 3 sticks at the time

Thanks for all the responses everybody. Sounds like it would be a bit of a nightmare trying to match the RAM. I found a good deal on Amazon and got Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM for only $58, so I decided I'll just get a new kit and hold on to the old 8GB stick as a backup or something.
