Hey guys! I have a Acer Aspire x3990 and i will be buying a new GPU and more RAM for it tomorrow. I just wanted to check with you guys whether it definable is compatible and what games it will be able to run. I am upgrading the motherboard, case and PSU at a later date. I will list the current specs below.

Motherboard: h61h2-ad <im not sure whether I will have a problem with this seeing as its not a brand.

RAM: 2GB DDR3

CPU: I3 2120

PSU: liteon pe-5221-08

So before making this post i did do some research and to my understanding the components im adding will work with my current build, i am just double checking before i blow £120. Below are the Two components I am adding.

Nvidia GTX 750ti 2GB Low Profile: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx750tiseries/n750ti-2gd5tlp.html

Kingston HyperX Fury Red 8GB: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/memory-pc/ddr3memory/ddr3pc3-128001600mhz/hx316c10fr8.html

Ideally i am hoping to play games like the new Rust and Arma 2 Dayz mod and maybe even Ark Survival in medium settings.

Thanks in advance everyone :)

always search for reviews on the interwebs. Didn't found anything good for that brand. Found a good review for this PSU though.

What I'm understanding is that your case isn't big enough to accommodate this PSU. if not and you need to have it outside with an open panel it's okish. if you are talking about how you should palce it (taking air from inside or outside the case) I like to have it getting air from outside, but if you don't have a choice it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Yea i have 2GB of RAM which bottlenecks the CPU like crazy so i thought i would go for the 8GB. And it is an ATX - mini so the power supply is designed for ATX - mini cases. I heard the GTX 750ti 2GB was a really good card and ran of the PCI slot so it doesn't need an external power connector.

Someone i know told me that the GTX 750ti requires atleast 400W and my PSU is 220W so it won't work. Then I asked on the GPU thread last week and people told me that it will work fine because the card takes power from the PCI. I think someone else told me that the card uses 60W and i should have 60W left over because the components in the PC are not using all the power of the PSU. So im really confused haha i just wanna play some Rust XD

So... where do you think the power from the PCI comes from? If you can't spend more money than that you have, then save for a decent PSU. Maybe get a 500W one or something like that. Buying a card and then not being able to run it won't be fun for sure. And the card requires 300W. Maybe get only 400W. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-750-ti/specifications

But get a good PSU. A bronze plus from seasonic, xfx, corsair or other reputable brand. Even if you could run it, if the PSU decides to break and kill your brand new card it wouldn't be nice. Same for a new one.

If your PSU if 220W it doesn't mean it delivers 220W. That's the effiency. Even the best PSUs will never deliver the stated wattage. If you are using all the power? I'm pretty sure you are stretching more than you should, but if it runs, it runs. I highly doubt that your PSU will handle the GPU, not even sure how it runs at all.

Okk so if I stretch my budget a little could I make an open air PC instead of buying a case and buy this PSU? http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/powersupplies/451wto650w/nov-psu500.html

my current case is mini ATX and good 500W mini ATX are so expensive

surely if i made the case open air i could fit the PSU in, or will it conflict because the rest of the pc components are mini ATX?

That PSU doesn't smell very well. That's why I said to save and wait till you get enough to get a decent one. Even if you take a while to be able to buy, at least there will be a new generation of GPUs coming in the next few months, if you can still keep your current hardware. And in your first post you said you wanted to upgrade your mobo and CPU latter, so why not get a GOOD PSU now? It will last a long time and won't kill anything.
