Hello there.

I am new to this site. For the past 7 years, I have had a Dell Studio XPS and upgraded as far as I could. Sadly my pc started to break down again-- usually when running Final Fantasy 14, as the computer would freeze a few seconds every few minutes in high use.

Anyway, I am trying to replace parts-- not knowing how by the way-- and trying to figure out what the new components I need to replace for an up to date gaming PC.

Here are my hardware specifics as far as I know:

Dell Studio XPS-- 435T
Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU 920 @2.67 GHz

24. 0 GB RAM

OS Build: 10586.164

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (Which I know i need to upgrade)

I***

If I need to give more details of my set up, I can and will. However-- my biggest concern is which new upgrades of parts, CPU, MOBO, and/or Graphic Card-- will fit in this model. I seen some big graphic cards with two fans. Id get the best I can but if they don't fit into the shell, it be a waste of money.

I need to know more importantly, which components are out of date, and which can be replaced for my model.

Thank you for your time and I hope someone here can help me before I buy a new pc or try to make my own. Thanks.

If you are using the original hard drive with that system, start there. Get a solid state hard drive, install Windows clean on that, see how things run. Even if you get the same hang-ups in games, it won't be a waste of money to replace the hard drive. After that you can look at other things.
use this to take a screenshot of your system specs in more detail: https://www.piriform.com/speccy

And also maybe take a picture of the inside of your computer case? (And get out a ruler and measure the distance between where your current graphics card is and where it hits what's behind it)

How much money do you have to work with here?

Is playing FF14 the only concern you have with your PC?

Have you tried reinstalling Windows to see if you don't just have a bunch of junk software?

use this to report back (screenshot) how healthy your hard drives are: http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

No its not the only concern. As a gamer, if I can't play that game, it begs to question others I cannot play as well, and I am very sure it is a hardware issue. No other reason for my entire computer to become unresponsive in that moment of freezing, even if it did recover moments later.

But I will update with a video capture of the specs now.
