I've noticed lately from using MSI Afterburner that my reference GTX 980Ti always gets up to 83 degrees Celsius when playing SW Battlefront, Battlefield 4, etc, pretty much any GPU intensive game. Just from what I have seen on the internet from youtube and forums, no one elses 980Ti or pretty much any newer GPU never gets that hot. So on MSI Afterburner I kicked the fan speed up from auto to 60%. Ran SW Battlefront and used Afterburner and saw that it was still a high 78-79 degrees Celsius. I have 4 case fans all at around 1300 RPM as well so I dont really see an airflow problem. Is this high 980Ti temp normal or is it just me? Thanks!

When playing SW Battlefront, on auto fan speed at 83C the gpu's clock speed was lower at around 1060-1064 MHz and then I brought the fan speed up to 60% and the clock speed went up to around 1177 MHz when the temp went down about five degrees and my fps went up a little

If your temp target is set at 83c then it will control itself to stay at 83c. You need to use something like MSI afterburner or EVGA precision X and setup a custom fan profile to keep the card at whatever desired temp you want. Any video card is supposed to be ran with its respective software. You never slap in a gpu install drivers and go. You always want to use a gpu software to monitor itself, allow power target adjustment, temp target adjustment and fan profiles to keep the card cooler. Also EVGA precisionX gives you on screen display if you choose to use it so you can monitor in game your gpu info.

no the card will still control its temps. But a custom fan curve keeps it cooler and running at its max clock longer without issues. You dont have to worry about anything. My goal is always to never let my cards get about 78c. Long as that happens im happy.
