Hi everyone,

I have just purchased 2 new Seagate Expansion 5tb external hard drives from Amazon.

After performing my backup I performed my backup of circa 2tb on each drive, I decided to run a Short Generic Test in Seatools as I've had issues of late with my external storage.

Both drives have failed the Short Generic test at the outer scan stage giving error codes of DAD39FCD and D6D2B0CS. As the long generic takes upwards of a day for each drive I haven't run it yet but the drives passed all of the other shorter Seatools tests. I should mention that there are no obvious issues with either drive, I simply ran the tests as a precaution given recent issues. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Are there any known issues with these drives? I'm very confused as the chances of having two brand new faulty drives feels slim!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Best
Steve

Hey there, Steve.

As you've mentioned chances are pretty slim that you'd be so unlucky to receive 2 new faulty drives. It's a good thing that you have all your important data safely stored. However I'd recommend that you download another HDD diagnostic tool, just to double-check those drives and see if anything out of the ordinary pops-up. You can check out this article for more suggestions: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm. Other than that, it might be a good idea to contact the HDD manufacturer's customer support and ask for more info on the matter.

Hope that helps.
