Could C2D E8400 support DDR3 memories & what is max supported RAM for it ?

Hey. I have Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. I currently have 4GB of DDR2 RAM memory.. My motherboard is: GIGABYTE GA-945PL-S3P

And, I'm thinking about to buy some new ASUS mobo which has DDR3 RAM slots.. because DDR2 are out-dated and DDR2 mainboards are really old.. and.. they simply suck.

I found some DDR3 motherboards which also has within LGA775 CPU socket... They are cheap, but functional... They are second-hand mobos.. And everything seems fine about them..

Also, I was thinking when I buy that new motherboard, I wanted to get 2x 4GB of DDR3 RAM.. But, could Core 2 Duo E8400 support 8GB of DDR3 RAM ?

And, if so, what is max supported RAM for that processor? Just to know as information.

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5

The processor doesn't care how much RAM is installed. Only the OS (32-bit vs 64-bit) and compatibility to the motherboard matter.

Then there is the need to make sure the motherboard actually supports the processor. Check the motherboard's CPU Support List to make sure the E8400 processor is listed as supported.

Do not buy a new motherboard for an E8400 expecting it to perform any differently than it does already. DDR3 will not improve performance. The E8400 was designed for DDR2 and DDR3 boards only showed up at the end of its life cycle because DDR2 was obsolete not because it made Core2 perform better..

Do not buy a new motherboard for that cpu
it's a complete waste. You could buy a 45 dollar pentium and a h81 motherboard for around 100 dollars add the ddr3 I'd say 30 bucks for 8GB for 50 and see double the performance of your current plan.

Do not invest any additional money expecting to see results from the 8400 it's beyond eol.
the only upgrade that will offer anything would be an ssd.

Okay guys.. Thank you for your suggestions..

But, I have an additional question which is about this PC

I have installed GTA 4 on this, and I run it on these Graphic settings:

***these are Settings by default.. "Auto configure"***

I asked my friends, and they told me that even CPU and GPU may support this game without any laggs on Medium or High..

But no.. Absolutely No.. On this settings, in-game I haven't above 35 FPS
It's constantly around 15-25 FPS

While I'm in Safe House, I have 75 FPS.. But in the moment when I leave house.. It DRASTICLY and RAPIDLY falls on 15 FPS and then it varies around 15-25 FPS

I once put everything on LOW and it was around 45-50 FPS in-game

I checked my CPU temperature during playing this game, and it reaches even that 86°C !!!
And all the time when the game is runned.. my CPU usage is constantly ABOVE 90% CPU Usage

My Graphic Card temperature never rises above 60°C which is awesome! I'm really suprised about my GPU because it never gone above 65°C

But after all of this, I really do not know what problem could be?

Please help!

GTA IV was terribly optimized and you need a quad core CPU to run it smoothly.

86C is way too hot though. You need to remove the cooler, clean off the old thermal paste and reinstall it with new paste. Most likely the cooler is not secured properly and you have to change the paste if you remove the cooler.

Alright.. But, I already changed paste.. I put new thermal paste around 2 weeks ago or so..

But I think that it's not the actual problem.. Maybe the problem is cooler. I feel it like it's loosy.. It always sways around.. It's shaky, actually...
Like it's not attached enough strong.. And maybe because of "pincers" of cooler are really loose and not well attached on it.. That's maybe the reason why temperature rises even tll 86°C

One my friend recommended me to pull out those Intel's cooler "pincers" .. I meant on these: http://imgur.com/gIC3vZC

And to exchange them with some screws which will completely PUSH the cooler on and cooling should be stronger... And temperature should not ever rise above 65°C

Make sure the pins are all the way pushed in. They can be pretty hard to set sometimes. You should not be seeing temps that high if it was mounted correctly.

but... despite the high temps the cpu shouldnt throttle at hose temps, yes the cool er is loose and that may be a problem but with the cooler cpu you will see nothing in additional frames.

as for your cpu being able to handle that game im surprised you get those settings and frame rates.

By the way, last time when I was putting cooler on.. It was soooo difficult to set it on.. Once it took about 2 hours to set it.. I bent that pinces several times, and it took a loong time to set them good.. After that, Cooler still loose... :/

Also, how is Hitman Absolution optimized?

I've donwloaded it few weeks ago, and on MEDIUM, everything goes fine.. Sometimes I have FPS drops when I enter some area full of details and contents..

I dont know what could affect on that FPS drops... Hmm
