I am planning on getting an Msi gtx 970. The two versions that I was looking at were around $50 apart. One was factory overclocked and the other wasn't. I am wondering if the the factory overclocked version is worth getting if I am able to achieve the same speeds overclocking manually. Can the factory overclocked card be manually overclocked further, or is it just for people who don't want to manually overclock. Thank you in advance.

You may or may not be able to overclock a card with reference speeds to the same as the factory overclocked cards. Sometimes the factory overclocks are better binned and use a better cooling solution. That being said, I would still go with stock cards and take my chances since I doubt you'll get a 20 percent improvement in FPS for a 20 percent increase in cost.
