Best i7 for 3D rendering and gaming??

Hey guys,

So I'm looking for an upgrade from my system so it can perform better in 3D applications such as 3DS max and possibly Zbrush. I currently have a quad core i5 4670k and 8GB of DDR3 1600MHz.

Looking to build a DDR4 system with a good i7 for multi-tasking and rendering. I'm currently looking at Skylake processors such as the i7 6700K and the hexacore i7 5820k. Would these be:
a) good choices for heavy rendering activities?
b) good overclockers?
c) perform better in the newest games than my current i5?

(not particularly concerned with price as of yet and I know a Xeon would be the best choice for rendering but I also want to be able to game with the CPU too at very good settings, so maybe a limit of £350 UK??)

Solution
If I were building today, I would probably go for the X99 platform. Not sure what the longevity of the LGA1151 socket will be. LGA2011v3, being an more enterprise class part, should have a generation or two coming to it. Definitely at least one, which is supposed to be out Q2 2016. (Broadwell-E)

Probably won't touch my main system components for a while though. Nothing really jumping out at me as desirable aside from M.2 NVMe drives, and I do need to start looking at a new SSD. Might buy a bulk 1TB drive and migrate my games over to that in preparation for a new motherboard and system drive.

Not really a difference for gaming between an i5, i7, or high end Xeon (which are way out of your budget). But if you are doing heavy rendering the extra cores of the 5820k and the increased memory bandwidth would help.

i7-6700k is a nice compromise between price and performance for your use case, but I would probably still go for the X99 setup.

Cooling isn't really an issue for me as I'm using a Corsair H100i dual radiator setup + an extra 120mm fan exhaust.
Yeah, it's a bit of a toss up between the i7 4790K, the skyake i7 6700K and the i7 5820K. If you had to choose what would you go for bearing in mind rendering performance, price and overclockability?
