1440 or 1080? Will my setup be able to support 144hz?

Here's the setup I'll likely be picking up: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hcq63C

I'm planning to overclock both the CPU and the GPU. I was going to pick up two of the ASUS 1080p 144hz monitors, but I'm thinking it might be worth it to upgrade to 1440 144hz.

If I do that, will I be able to hit the 144hz? If so, how long do you think until new games keep me from hitting 144hz on 1440?

I know I can always just lower settings to hit higher FPS, but being able to play on the highest settings would definitely be a plus :)

A single 980 Ti will support 144hz, it just won't be able to output 144+ FPS on a 1440p screen in recent AAA titles. You'd comfortably expect anywhere between 60-100 fps. If you to get anywhere near 144fps in 1440p you'd want a second 980 Ti.

I'd recommend 1440p, it looks great over 1080p, although this is partially down to me going from a 1080p TN panel to a 1440p IPS panel.

What Hyboria said. Before I picked up a second card I was running my PG278Q with a single 980Ti and hitting no less than 60 on ultra. Demanding games like Witcher 3 and Division will stay around a steady 60, while most other games will get much higher FPS. I was hitting over 100 on Battlefront with a single 980Ti.

1440p no question over 1080p. After gaming on 1440, going back to 1080 is very noticeable, and your rig is more than powerful enough to do it.
